What does a bass DI do?

The Good: Direct Injection – The Basics No matter what you call ’em, DIs have one job: they take your bass’ unbalanced high-impedance instrument level output and convert it to the balanced, low-impedance microphone level signal required by the mixing console. The ¼” input is where you plug in the bass.

Where does the SansAmp pedal go in the pedal chain?

Where in the signal chain should I place the SansAmp? I want to ideally use the SansAmp both for various drive channels and for DI. Is a DI box necessary?

The essential function of a DI box is to convert a high-Z or high impedance signal to a low-Z or low impedance mic signal, but why would we want to do this? The signals need to be at low-Z for recording and live purposes, thus the DI box ensures you get the right level signal for recording and the PA system.

Where do you put Di in a signal chain?

Traditionally, drive/gain should go pre-modulation, so in that case I’d place it next to the distortion. It even says in the product manual to place it before modulation and delay. But to use the DI with the effected signal, I need to put it last in the chain.

Why did you upgrade to SansAmp Bass di?

I upgraded from the original SansAmp bass DI to this programmable version, specifically for the ability to change between pre-sets for my 2 different basses I use, as they both have tone and volume differences. Having the ability to click between for each bass has balanced out both volume and tone!

What do you think of the SansAmp EA?

The EA amp and speaker set-up is absolutely beautiful for my EUB but was a little dry for my American Standard Jazz bass. The Sansamp is used very much as a modeller to overcome that limitation and I have an SVT, a traditional Fender Bassman and a 60’s – 70’s distorted sound very much reminiscent of Cream programmed in.
