What does the BMW exhaust flap do?
Exhaust valve is purely a noise reduction device. It can close at low speeds for EU regs, or at certain RPM’s to control drone/boomy notes, or in certain driver modes. Disconnect it if you want. It will probably throw a background code, but it’s not something BMW usually get funny about.

What does a resonator exhaust tip do?
Expert Reply: A resonator exhaust tip can be considered as a cavity resonator in which the design causes the air to vibrate a certain way in a hollow cavity which produces a certain sound. They can be used in some systems to work with the muffler to reduce noise.

Do you have to pay for Bimmerlink?
There are certain (very limited) functions available for the free versions of both Bimmerlink & Bimmercode but they’re about as much use as a catflap on a submarine. The free versions are handy for checking compatibility with your car and OBD Adapter before purchasing the full versions but that’s about it.
Is a resonator delete illegal?
Yes, you cannot remove something from the exhaust, whether you get pinged on it or not is a different question entirely. Technically you may be able to argue that the emissions have not been efected and the sound doesn’t exceed the perscribed levels, but AFAIK you can’t remove things.
Do resonators make exhaust deeper?
Resonator: Deepens the tone of the exhaust, makes it less raspy. General rule of thumb: the longer the better.
